King Colla Uais DNA
I made this list of Y-DNA signatures to allow the comparison of Laird Y-DNA to the suspected King Colla Uais Y-DNA
that was provided in the Clan Donald press release dated February 24, 2004. King Colla Uais was the High King of
Ireland and Scotland about the year 325ad.
I included in the order of appearance.
- My Laird Y-DNA 3 markers off
- MacDonald Y-DNA markers off
- MacGregor of MacGregor Y-DNA, the Clan chief line. 2 markers off
- Gaelic Livingstone Y-DNA perfect match
- Ancient Campbell Y-DNA from the Clan Campbell website. 3 markers off
As of yet I do not have the Ancient Clan Donald Y-DNA to post. I do have a Y-DNA signature that I found on ysearch.org
and posted it here. MacDonald Y-DNA results have a wide range of numbers, and this may not be the best set of
marker results to post. I did write to the Clan Donald and have not received a reply as of the writing of this new
information. I have MacDonald family on my mothers side a few generations back, but other than this fact I do not
know of any connection to the great Clan Donald.
Project director of the Clan Donald stated: We have built on the data of existing genetic projects including the
MacGregors, Gaelic Livingstones, and Campbells to reach a common goal: understanding the genealogy and history of

If you are interested in another point of view on the MacDonald article the Clan Campbell link below is a must read. I have an
open mind on this idea, but I do not have the information they used to come up with the Y-DNA for King Colla Uais.

This is a quote off the Clan Campbell website.
"Other Clan Results
The Campbell Project is also collaborating with other Clan projects and monitoring results.
One result of this collaboration is the hypothesis that marker 392 with a value of 14 is the distinguishing marker of Irish
Clans. This seems to hold true for some of the Campbell and MacDonald samples."
It seems that Clan Campbell and Clan Donald both have looked into the fact that marker 392 shows a connection to Irish
clans, I have looked into this fact in a limited and unscientific way, when I see marker 392 has a value of 14 I check their
place of origin, and it does seem to hold true, many of the people do come from Ireland.
Now lets take a look at Clan Gregor, this quote is taken from their website and I agree with it 100%.
"A word about other clans
We have been able to compare some Campbell and some Stewart data with that of the MacGregor project. It is important to
say that we have no idea to whom this information belongs, whether from a 'proved' bloodline or from a 'past-taker', but
what is clear is that there is a reasonably close connection with MacGregor bloodline (18 of 21 in the case of two Campbells
and 23 of 25 for Stewart) which helps confirm a common Dalriadic origin -our histories are clearly more intertwined than we
knew and for longer than just the last 700 years."
As we travel back into the dim past of Ireland and Scotland, we find the Y-DNA of some clans appears to have a common
source, one of a Dalriadic nature. This fact may hold true for my Laird Y-DNA. There is one clan that claims the Laird name
but not as a sept, the following is a quote from the MacLeod U.S.A. website.
" Laird
Although not considered a sept of MacLeod, MacLeod nevertheless accepts Laird as one of its own. The Scottish surname
was brought to Ulster by settlers following the plantation schemes of the 17th century. (Irish Family Names by Brian Breffny)"
Even though it appears that Clan MacLeod accepts the Laird name as one of its own, it also appears this acceptance is of
recent origin, and is not related by blood. There are Lairds in Northern Ireland and I think this fact deserves a discussion of
