project is underway a
t

The purpose of this
project is to determine
how the Laird families of
America are related, if
at all. This project is
open to all males with
the surname Laird.

At the moment there is
only one Laird DNA
sample posted in this
project. We need one
sample from each line to
see if there is a common
ancestor for the Laird
line, so please get
involved.

father of Dalriada who came to Scotland in 325 ad.  This is a very important link to the past
history of Scotland and they should be applauded for their work in this area. To see how this
genetic finding compares to Laird Y-DNA follow the link above.

Lodowick Laird

Lodowick Laird bought land in Pennsylvania in 1755 and was soon part of the Great Wagon
Road migration that traveled down the east coast. After repeated Indian attacks and his
neighbor being tomahawked Lodowick Laird sold his land to Samuel Laird and moved south.
The fact that Lodowick sold land to Samuel Laird has led many people to wonder if these two
great family lines were related. New information has been found to prove this is not the
case. Some of the email we receive here at LairdGenealogy.com asks this very question. This
is not to say that these  families are not related in some way, we do know that they had
contact with each other. More on this later.

This Laird family came to America in the early 1730s, and  flowed across
America like a flood, opening new frontiers from coast to coast. When we look at
the extended Laird family 27 men are know to have fought in the revolutionary
war for a free United States.
